Defect detection in underground pipes

Repairing leakage/bursts of underground water and wastewater Pipes are expensive ad-hoc repairs for utilities while fines for unplanned supply shutdowns and or customer satisfaction drops can be severe.  Utilities, and their construction partners, seek a technology-enabled solution to identify possible defects in pipes for manual ratification, before any pipe leaks / bursts .

Alumnus applies shape recognition algorithms on video films of the insides of these underground Pipes. Rather than depend totally on manual defect identification, the systems identify possible defects such as cracks, tree roots, construction damage etc. for manual review.

This drives proactive maintenance to repair or contain the damage to pipes. It improves the productivity of Pipe repair teams and improves customer satisfaction of the utilities.
