Modernizing Curing Curve Computation for Rubber based Manufacturing

Our customer uses rubber as a key input in their manufacturing process. Their production relies on precise computation of the curing curve (which yields the curing specification)—a critical factor in ensuring product quality. We were engaged to replace their legacy application used for calculating this curve.

Key Challenge

The primary challenge was to deliver an error free system given inaccuracies in curing parameters directly lead to high rejection rates on the shop floor.

Solution Approach

We re-architected the application, replacing the legacy desktop application that limited access to just four users with a centralized, web-based platform. The solution replaces rigid, hardcoded logic with a flexible rule-based engine, empowering users to adapt and refine process rules with evolving operational knowledge.

Features

The new web-based platform includes key features expected in contemporary manufacturing control software, supporting unrestricted access, enabling centralized updates to business logic across all sites, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), audit trails, real-time validation and alerts, providing management with real-time visibility into daily curing specification volumes.

Impact

Our solution delivers a 40% improvement in the curing specification calculation speed, reducing it from 1.5 minutes to under 30 seconds. The curing curve computation is required to be done by a plant between 300 – 500 times per day. Our solution reduces time spent by expert process engineers, that time being both valuable and scarce.

The modernized platform brings reliability, adaptability, and ease of use to a mission-critical process. The solution is deployed across 20 plants.
