Data - Driven Visualization of Geogrid Performance

Geogrid is a strong, polymermade grid used under soils to stabilize and increase its load-bearing capacity. The solution utilizes sensor-enabled ‘Smart Pebbles’ (tiny IoT sensors) designed to evaluate geogrid performance, under simulated real-world conditions. The Smart Pebbles used, are ultra – compact battery – powered hardware with motion sensors and BLE communication abilities.

Key Technical Features
  • Data transmitted from multiple sensors is stored, analyzed, and visualized.
  • The objective is to estimate with 90%+ accuracy - the comparison of structural behaviour with and without geogrid.
  • We made fundamental modifications to reduce packet loss for acceptable quality BLE data transmission.
  • Visualizing the movement of Smart Pebbles is a hard problem. This involves simultaneous lateral and rotational motion. On-device sensors introduce inaccuracy which can accumulate. Mathematical techniques like quaternion and Kalman filtering was used to get reliable motion sensing and visualization.
  • The solution gives our client clear, quantifiable evidence of geogrid effectiveness, enhancing both R&D validation and field decision-making.
